Quick Shot: Nest Building

A few weeks ago I posted a video of an Osprey couple in Dyke Marsh that were busy caring for their eggs. I knew it was about time for those eggs to hatch, so I headed back to the nest with hopes of seeing the young Osprey.

Although I could see a few baby Osprey moving around in the nest, they were still far too small to see very well..... but mom and dad were still very busy tending to their nest by bringing in fish to feed their young and grabbing sticks to build back up their nest.

I snapped this shot of one of the adults grabbing a stick from the Potomac River and carrying it back to the nest. These birds are incredibly talented and smart and it's really spectacular to watch them snatch up a stick and then spend a few minutes positioning it perfectly in the nest.

Shot with a Nikon D800 and 80-400mm lens at 400mm. Converted to black and white using Nik Silver Efex 2.
