Quick Shot: New (Aerial) Camera
Today I added a new camera to my collection, but this one is a little bit different from my other cameras because it can fly!
I am now the proud owner of a DJI Phantom Vision 2 Plus, which is the newest aerial photography platform produced by DJI. I became interested in these aerial drones after seeing them being used at Photoshop World 2014; the relatively small and easy to use machines offer photographers and videographers a relatively affordable means to produce aerial images.
Adding an aerial camera to my collection is a big decision. I'm always looking for ways to get my camera into unique and interesting places. Aerial photography in particular caught my attention because landscape photography is so often shot from ground level - but this will allow me to get a different and unique perspective on some of the most famous landscapes.
In the next few weeks I'll be learning to fly and I'll post any interesting stuff I get along the way, but priority #1 is learning to be a safe pilot. This drone can be a very powerful tool, but also can be very dangerous if I crash into someone or something - so I need to master flying before I worry about the creative photography!
For fun, here's an "aerial photograph" showing a comparison between my Nikon D800 dSLR camera and my new DJI Phantom Vision 2 Plus! Of course the actual camera on the bottom of the drone is far smaller!
